Vintage Bling Christmas Decoration

I favorited this photo on Flickr by Sweetina (Christine Ponte) over a year ago, and I occasionally go back to it and admire it. Isn’t it pretty? I meant to try to make something like it last year, and then forgot.

This year, I decided to make a very simple version after stumbling upon some cardboard Christmas trees in the dollar bin at the craft store.

I gathered up my glue gun, buttons, rhinestone, sequins, gold trim and anything else I could find, and started gluing away. This is the kind of craft that you probably have all the supplies for already, and you can always just cut a Christmas tree out of cardboard.

There’s really nothing to this tutorial, except a lot of gluing, but I will say this: it’s really impressive how little white space there is in the original piece. It takes tremendous patience and the right supplies to fill in all those tiny spaces.

Here’s my version. I forgot to make the tinsel, but I still like how it turned out, and I might just make another because it was so simple.

I hung it up on our front door for the heck of it.

Christina has a fun Etsy shop (Sweetina: Art & Vintage) full of vintage goodies. You can also see her photos on Flickr.

Tomorrow, I want to share photos of Rosa’s birthday party. See you then!
